1. Building for 8,000

Community planning and building design are based on ancient principles of Maharishi Sthapatya-Veda Vedic Architecture promote health, happiness and good fortune of residents. Houses face east and communities are designed with streets aligned north-south, east-west and surrounded by a green belt of evergreen trees.

Planned as a “City of the Sun,” all energy needs will be met from sun and other renewable sources. Every building is designed to be energy efficient and use natural building materials. Wastewater processing will use a wide range of plants and animals in a garden and greenhouse environment. Native grasses and ponds will retain storm water for reuse including in a secondary water system.

2. Organic Agriculture

Value-added organic agriculture is a cornerstone of the City’s economic plan. The highest quality fresh organic fruits and vegetables are grown year round in greenhouses, picked when ripe—when flavor and nutrition are maximum—and rushed to market within hours.

The project uses sustainable approaches and renewable energy. It is designed to serve not only the local community— a university with all organic food service that is ranked by distributors as one of the largest single organic consumers in the country, local restaurants, food markets, health spas, and consumers—but also a broader service area within a 250 mile radius of the City.

3. Business & Entrepreneurship

Expansion of the business community in an area already known as the “entrepreneurial capital of Iowa” is essential for job creation.

Key to this plan is development of new technology-related businesses including call centers, and a major campaign to attract businesses around the country to expand in this community.

The College is becoming a guiding light in the medical and research community in applying ancient Vedic approaches to health to effectively deal with modern medical problems including heart disease.

Prevention-oriented health care and new approaches to chronic disease are available at The Raj—ranked as one of the top 10 spas in the country.

8. World Peace

Solutions to the critical challenges of terrorism, crime and violence facing society today have been brought to light by His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and internationally recognized scientists, including John Hagelin, Ph.D. They present a fundamental approach validated by more than 50 replications and 19 published studies that can neutralize the basis of terrorism and crime, preventing terrorist attacks and violence before they begin. (For more information please see www.mou.org/media/index.html/ and Dr. Hagelin’s proposal to government at www.permanentpeace.org.)

This City of Peace is planned to be a part of the implementation of this proven, practical non-violent approach which calls for the establishment of (1) a centralized program—through a group of 8,000 Yogic Flyers in Maharishi Vedic City and the surrounding community to generate an influence of coherence for America and a peace-keeping group of 40,000 Vedic Scholars in India using thousands of years old approaches to generate a powerful influence of coherence for the whole world; and (2) a localized program to create peace-keeping groups of between 100 and 1000 in each of the 3,000 largest cities of the world.
